Dermaplaning is a beauty treatment designed to rejuvenate the skin by removing the top layer of dead skin cells from the stratum corneum, the outermost layer of your skin. This method of exfoliation uses a surgical blade specially designed for dermaplaning. An Esthetician must complete extra training to be able to perform this service in a safe and sanitary manner.
This treatment has been performed by dermatologists and plastic surgeons for over 40 years, and has been recorded to be used in ancient Egypt! Doctors use this treatment to prep for other exfoliation treatments like chemical peels and laser treatments. Dermaplane treatments were added to the Estheticians scope of practice in Wisconsin in 2022 and it is a popular anti-aging treatment. You can receive a dermaplane treatment as a stand alone service or have it incorporated into your monthly facial.
The absorption rate of the products used in the treatment room and the products you use in your home care is greatly increased making dermaplaning a successful treatment for brightening of the skin, improving acne scarring, minimizing fine lines and wrinkles. Oh, and no more peach-fuzz!
Common question answered - Will the hair on my face grow back thicker?
Short answer, No.
Similar to shaving your legs with a razor, the dermaplane blade slices the hair at a similar angel. The hair is not getting pulled out of the hair follicle like waxing. Your hair naturally grows with a tapered end and after dermaplaning, the hair is cut at a blunt angel. As that hair goes through the 4 stages of the hair cycle and falls out, a new hair will grow and replace it. It is important to note that hormones have an impact on hair growth, especially on your face. If you notice your facial hair may be dark, thick, and deep rooted, it may be connected to hormonal imbalances and is highly encouraged to be discussed with your primary care doctor.
